To help prepare for the application of the European regulation on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement (the EU General Data Protection Regulation or GDPR), which will enter into force on May 25, 2018, Guy Soussan, Philip Woolfson, and I authored a commentary on the GDPR titled “The GDPR from an Insurance and Financial Mediation Perspective” targeted to the insurance and financial services sector, including their intermediaries.

This commentary, commissioned by the European Federation of Insurance Intermediaries (Bipar), has been prepared in cooperation with Bipar specifically to identify relevant provisions of the new legislation as they apply to intermediaries in the widest sense of the term: re/insurance brokers, agents and Independent Financial Advisers (IFAs).  It explains data protection law in light of the changes brought about by the GDPR and includes a checklist to summarizes the legislation and its application to intermediaries.
